Like other parts of the globe, the Christian community is celebrating Easter with religious fervour and enthusiasm across the country on Sunday (today). Easter is the culmination of the 40-day lent season--a time of fasting, almsgiving, repentance and spiritual renewal. It is the annual Christian festival celebrating the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead.
Special midnight services were held in Saturday night at churches to mark the beginning of Easter celebrations. Special prayers for integrity, solidarity, progress and peace in the country and across the world were also offered. For Christians, the dawn of Easter Sunday with its message of new life is the high point of the Christian year. The churches are decorated with different ornaments for holding different activities.
According to the Christian belief, the celebration of Easter is the celebration of the triumph of life over death and is dedicated to the honour of Christ who gave his life for the sins of His loved ones. The Christians observe Lenten penance and fasting; carnivals, egg exchanging, eating, decorating and egg hunt as the part of Easter celebrations. TV channels will present special programmes to mark the Day.
