The 414th annual Urs celebrations of Hazrat Madho Lal Hussain, popularly known as Mela Chiraghan, entered its second day on Sunday. Thousands of devotees visited the Mazar and paid homage to the Sufi poet by lighting earthen lamps.
The Mela Chiraghan has been one of the biggest festivities of Lahore for more than four hundred years, which begins with the arrival of spring season. Earthen lamps and candles are lighted by devotees to pay homage to the Sufi saint.
Pakistan Punjabi Adabi Board organised a seminar in collaboration with the Punjab Institute of Languages, Art and Culture to highlight Shah Hussain's contribution to literature, social and spiritual life. The seminar was presided over by prominent human rights activist and journalist Hussain Naqi. Mushtaq Soofi and other prominent Punjabi poets, writers and researchers including Masood Khalid, Arshad Mehmood, Sarwat Muhayyudin and Dr Ghafir Shehzad addressed the seminar.
Later the participants of the literary function laid floral wreaths at the Mazar of the sufi poet. The Punjab Auqaf department also organised various events to highlight different aspects of Hazrat Madho Lal Hussain's life. A well researched drama on the life, teachings, and social shades of Shah Hussain was also presented at the Al-Hamra Arts council theatre. Mehfil-e-Sama was also held on the occasion.
