Punjab Chief Minister Najam Sethi directed the health department to take all measures on war footing to save the children from measles. He said vaccination of children against measles should be ensured and all out preventive measures should be adopted to curb this disease. He said a vigorous public awareness campaign should be launched regarding preventive measures against this disease.
The caretaker Chief Minister was presiding over a high level meeting to review treatment facilities in hospitals and the measures taken to prevent the outbreak of measles here on Thursday. He said maximum resources will be provided for the provision of modern treatment facilities to the patients in government hospitals. He directed that performance of hospitals be improved with regard to medical facilities besides setting up monitoring units for checking the efficiency of doctors and paramedics in all public sector hospitals. Monitoring units will directly inform the special cell set up at the Chief Minister's Secretariat about public complaints. He directed Secretary Health to present an action plan in this regard immediately.
Minister for Health Salima Hashmi, Secretary Health, Secretary Information, Director General Health Services, Director General Public Relations, medical experts and officers concerned were present. Addressing the meeting, Chief Minister Najam Sethi directed that availability of the best treatment facilities should be ensured in government hospitals and their standard should be in accordance with the expectations of the people. He said that satisfaction of the people is the only yardstick for evaluating the performance of hospitals. Secretary Health gave a briefing about the steps taken for the provision of medical facilities to the patients in hospitals and protection against measles.
