Pakistan hockey team cruised into the final of U-16 Asia Cup after beating their counterparts from Malaysia in the semi-final encounter recording a formidable 6-0 victory on Saturday in Singapore. Muhammad Atiq scored twice while Sikandar Mustafa, Nohaiz Zahid Malik, Shan Irshad and Junaid Manzoor scored one goal each for the victors in the match.
"The boys have been playing brilliantly and their efforts must be praised," coach Tahir Zaman said after the green-shirts qualified for the final of the tournament. "They have also adapted to the new five-a-side format and have been playing as a single unit, which have made them capable of pulling big victories". Tahir added that his team has been looking for nothing but the title of the tournament and he was happy as now they were in striking distance.
"We have come in the tournament to clinch the title and we are now only one match way to reach our goal. I am happy with the team's performance and the boys are also in good spirits," he said. "But our campaign will end tomorrow (Sunday) with the tournament's trophy in our hands," he said. In the summit clash, Pakistan will face Bangladesh on Sunday.
