University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences (UVAS) Lahore Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr Talat Naseer Pasha has urged to study pharmaceutical toxicology in the synthesis of new medicines to ensure safety.
The Vice-Chancellor said this while addressing the inaugural ceremony of a two-day international conference on "Pharmaceutical Toxicology" organised by Faculty of Bio Sciences, UVAS in collaboration with Higher Education Commission Pakistan and Department of Clinical Neuroscience, university of Cambridge UK.
He said that this conference will provide an overview of the methodology and requirements of the pre-clinical safety assessments of new medicines. It will provide an assessment of risk to human health and environment. He also appreciated the working of Pakistan Agriculture Research Council (PARC) for their working in the area of scientific research and he expected more collaboration from PARC for the development of livestock sector. He said that UVAS mission is to support and promote the study, analysis, and screening of toxicants which ultimately affecting the health of human beings, animals, plants, soils, damaged buildings and other property and to develop awareness level at national and international level through its research and development.
Dr Iftikhar Ahmed Chairman Pakistan Agriculture Research Council (PARC) was the chief guest of inaugural session. He appreciated the efforts of the university in development of livestock sector. He said now we have to move from synthetic pharmaceutics to Bio-pharmaceutics to minimise the toxicity level and UVAS has to take initiative for this.
