Qaumi Watan Party (QWP) Chairman Aftab Ahmad Khan Sherpao on Tuesday asked the people to vote only those political parties, who were really capable to steer the county from the present crisis situation. "The performance of the previous government is nil and the parties that were part of the ruling coalition are destined to face a crushing defeat in the forthcoming polls," he told a well-attended public meeting in Mandani in Tangi tehsil in Charsadda district.
QWP provincial Chairman Sikandar Hayat Khan Sherpao and the party's district President Khursheed Khan, QWP candidate for PK-20 Khalid Khan and others spoke on the occasion. He said the elections should be held on time and any delay in conducting the polls would be resisted with full force. "We want the elections to be held as per its schedule. We will launch protest if any attempt was made to postpone the election," he warned.
QWP chairman said attacks on the candidates and election offices of the former coalition partners were taking place owing to their flawed policies, which they pursued over the last five years. "They are now raising hue and cry to hide their incompetence and gain the sympathies of the masses," he said. He said electorate would hold the former rulers accountable in the coming polls as they did nothing to provide relief to disadvantaged and marginalised segments of the society.
Sherpao said the so-called nationalist leaders abandoned the Pakhtuns in the face of challenges and they were again trying to deceive them in the name of peace. He said the blood of the innocent Pakhtuns was shed over the last five years. "Those who had claimed to give pen in the hands of the Pakhtuns in fact exposed to them destruction," he maintained. He said the previous government committed unprecedented corruption and pocketed the funds meant for the rehabilitation of the flood affectees and the internally displaced persons.
QWP chief said if voted to power, the restoration of peace, securing rights of the Pakhtuns, gaining provincial autonomy and bringing the underdeveloped areas on a par with the rest of the country would be their top priorities. He said the QWP would implement its election manifesto in letter and spirit if the party came into power.
