KCCI president urges structural economic reforms in first 100 days of new government
President Karachi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) Muhammad Haroon Agar has emphasised that the newly elected government in its first 100 days must bring structural economic reforms both on federal, provincial and local government levels. The economy was bleeding due to various challenges and manifold internal and external problems vis-à-vis law and order situation, energy and gas crises, negative perception of Pakistan in the eyes of countries around the globe.
Exchanging views with the delegation of European Journalists, representing print and electronic media, headed by Christian Zarm President of Deutscher Presse Verband (DPV), accompanied by Robin Ruehling, Ingo Hasewend, Christian Zarm, Arne Perras, Suddeutsche, Karl Heinz Roghofer and Shams ul Haq during their visit to KCCI apprised that prevailing state of affairs demanded immediate economic reforms which were crucial for sustainable economic growth, industrialisation and uplift the economy.
The delegation of European Journalists asked several questions inviting the comments of President KCCI about expectations of the business and industrial community with the newly elected government, challenges and problems confronted to the economy, the present economic scenario and post-election economic reforms, women empowerment, role of women in the economy and businesses, proposed solutions to address the energy crises, root-cause of precarious law and order situation in Karachi, vital moves to attract foreign investment and protect the existing local and foreign investment, imperative measures to promote commercial and industrial activities in Pakistan and enhance reciprocal trade with various countries world-wide etc.
KCCI President Muhammad Haroon Agar responding to the questions of European delegation stated that the newly elected government should accord top priority to economy, safety and security to citizens, energy and education. He conversed that the business and industrial community as the real stakeholders communicated with the government who so ever was in power. If needed communication is also made with all the political stakeholders who have some mandate in the city of Karachi for the economy and remove hurdle in the business and industrial activities especially law and order situation.
As an entity and stakeholder, the business and industrial community of Karachi has no political affiliations as a group or an institution but individually some of the members may have. Political forces talk about their mandate but in our case of business and industrial community of Karachi they are reluctant to accept our mandate and at times contact such flattering people who have been losing elections at KCCI.
The business and industrial community of Karachi supports democracy in the country and expects and also demands the newly elected government to immediate action against criminals irrespective of cast, colour and creed or any political affiliations whatsoever to control the law and order situation.
Haroon Agar expressed that the business and industrial community believed the democracy should continue in Pakistan because it was essential to flourish the economy. With the span of time, maturity in the democratic system will come and the citizens of Pakistan will vote out the politicians who failed to deliver and not performing for the benefit of the country and the Pakistani citizens will voted out and replace those with honest politicians.
