At least two people including local leader of ASWJ were killed in separate incidents of violence in city on Wednesday, police and rescue sources said. A worker of Ahle-Sunnat Wal Jamaat (ASWJ) was gunned down by unidentified armed men near Usman Ghani Masjid, Vita Chowrangi Korangi Town, in the limits of Korangi Industrial Area police station.
He was identified as 40-year-old man, Hafiz Sajjad, son of Nawaz. According to ASWJ spokesman, the deceased Hafiz Sajaid had quarrelled with workers of a political party on elections day, after which he had been receiving life threats. The victim received two bullets on upper torso. He lived in the same area.
The body was shifted to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC) for medico-legal formalities. In another incident, a 26-year-old Hanif, son of Nazeer was shot and killed by unknown assailants at Akbar Road, Sher Shah, in the limits of Sher Shah police station. Police said victim received four bullets and died on spot. The body was shifted to Civil Hospital Karachi (CHK) for an autopsy.
Meanwhile Sindh police spokesman said that five people were killed and six injured in various incidents of violence in Karachi during the past 24 hours. He said that these killings took place from seven pm on May 14 up to seven pm on May 15. The police spokesman said that one person died in targeted killing, while three others were killed for "unknown reasons" whereas one alleged criminal lost his life in a reported clash.
