The National Highways and Motorway Police (NH&MP) and National Database Registration Authority (Nadra) signed an agreement to launch an E-driving system. The agreement was signed by Inspector General NH&MP Zafar Abbas Lak and Chairman Nadra Tariq Malik during a ceremony at Nadra headquarter in this regard, said in a press release issued here on Wednesday.
NH&MP has empowered to make its own driving licensing system around the country under Highways Safety Ordinance, 2000, said IG Zafar Abbas while speaking at E-driving launching ceremony. According to a research of MP's, he said more than 50 percent licences of trucks drivers and other such heavy vehicles are unregistered. He observed that vehicles owners are being faced numerous difficulties in provision of driving license. The system was introduced to ease their difficulties, which could also helpful to fill co-ordination gap between department and aspirants of registration, he said.
Lak said the system was jointly launched by NH&MP and Nadra, would have great benefits. He further expressed the hope that a mobile driving licensing service would be also launched to provide facility of license to people at their door step. Similarly, he also said that both institutes planned to launch a Vehicle Identification System (VIS) very soon, which could be helpful to control theft of vehicle and counter terrorism and to combat other such crimes.
Due to lack of driving skills, he revealed that more than 16,000 people are died every year in road accidents. He said efforts are being made to reduce to increasing ratio of accidents through road-safety awareness programme. He further informed that NH&MP had established Road Safety Institutes cum State of the Art Driving Schools at district levels, where all modern gadgets would be provided to learn driving ie Multi media and Simulators.
