Division of Punjab province and degrading Pakistan Army are very dangerous tendencies. Assassination of Shah Faisal was the most damaging act for Islamic world in Muslim history. Proper and effective representations of Muslims at world forums are lacking. We have to rethink why we are left behind in achieving international standards in many spheres.
These thoughts were expressed by Mowahid Hussain Shah, eminent policy analyst, columnist and author during Bethak of scholars, diplomats, intellectuals and columnists at TECH Society Club on current affairs of Pakistan.
Former Ambassador of Pakistan in United Nations and European Union Shaukat Umar, Zubair Sheikh, Dr Muhammad Sadiq, Professor Dr Mugheesuddin Sheikh, Professor Dr Mujahid Mansoori, Professor Dr Shafiq Jullundhry, Qayyum Nizami, Salman Abid, Jameel Gishkori, Engr. Mahmudur Rehman Chughtai, Khalid M. Saleem, Jami Bhatti and Col. (r) Z.I. Farrukh were also present to share their analyses on various topics.
Shaukat Umar said that no political party discussed foreign policy during their recent election campaigns. However, giving priority to education, health and system development is a major achievement. Professor Dr Mujahid Mansoor said that role of media is pivotal in the recent elections. Salman Abid said that role of both local and international establishments cannot be ruled out.
Professor Dr Mugheesudin Sheikh disclosed that 13 billion rupees were spent on media for election campaigns. Professor Dr Shafiq Jullundhry said that some powers were not in favour of resolving Pakistan's issues but still we should focus on our future developments. Qayyum Nizami said that all political parties should accept election results and controversial polling should be resolved through election tribunals.
Jameel Gishkori read his fresh poems on the current situation in Pakistan. Zubair Sheikh said that TECH Club will continue to hold such intellectual gatherings to revive our social norms. Speakers emphasised the need of presenting our case in a more convincing way at various international and national forums. Dr Muhammad Sadiq said that historical turnout of recent elections and interest of youth in elections was positive developments. He presumed that future elections would be more effective and productive for Pakistan.
