The Karachi Port handled 116,600 tonnes of cargo comprising 84,781 tonnes of import cargo and 31,819 tonnes of export cargo including 4,087 loaded and empty containers during the last 24 hours ended at 0700 hours on Saturday. The total import cargo of 84,781 tonnes comprised 20,567 tonnes of containerised cargo; 4,121 tonnes of general cargo; 4,301 tonnes of bulk cargo and 55,792 tonnes of oil/liquid cargo.
The total export cargo of 31,819 tonnes comprised 25,377 tonnes of containerised cargo; 130 tonnes of general cargo; 4,292 tonnes of bulk cargo and 2,020 tonnes of oil/liquid cargo. As many as 4,087 containers comprising 1,692 containers import and 2,395 containers export were handled during the last 24 hours on Saturday.
The brakeup of imported containers shows 464 of 20's and 614 of 40's loaded while nil of 20's and nil of 40's empty containers, whereas that of exported containers shows 707 of 20's and 387 of 40's loaded containers while 148 of 20's and 383 of 40's empty containers were handled during the business hours.
There are five ships with three container ships, one oil tanker and one cement carrier sailed out to sea during the reported period. There are four vessels with two container ships, one oil tanker and one general cargo ship respectively are currently at the berths. There is one ship namely Bunga Kantan Dua with oil tanker sailed out to sea on Saturday. There are five vessels viz Tasanee, Northern Power, Maliakos, Med Pacific and Evian with three container ships, one chemicals carrier and one rock phosphate carrier respectively due to arrive on Saturday.
The total export cargo includes 25,735 tonnes of containerised cargo. There is one ship namely MT Al-Salam-II with diesel oil sailed out to sea during the last 24 hours, while another ship namely CV Caribbean Sea with containers sailed out to sea on Saturday morning.
A total number of four vessels viz CV Caribbean Sea, MV Bulk Pangaea, MT Al-Salam-II and MV KPS-1 Alican Bey are currently occupying berths to load/offload containers, coal, diesel oil and power ship respectively during the last 24 hours. As many as three ships namely MT Lahore, Arietis and Princes Park with furnace oil and phosphoric acid are currently at the outer anchorage of Port Qasim. There are no vessels expected to take berths on Saturday. There are three ships namely CV President Adam, MT Arietis and MV Princes Park with containers, furnace oil and phosphoric acid due to arrive on Saturday.
