Kenya suffers nation-wide power cut

Kenya suffered a country-wide power cut Tuesday after technical faults triggered a wider shutdown, national provider Kenya Power said. Power failed after two transmission lines from a geothermal power station tripped, prompting the national grid to also cut out, said Kenya Power, the sole provider in the country.
Power returned to most parts of the country around five hours later, in the early evening, although several pockets were reported to remain without power. "Power has been restored in most areas," the company said in a statement. "Our technical team (is) addressing the issue where it (so far) has not." Power was fed into the national grid from neighbouring Uganda to the west, it said. Localised power cuts are common in Kenya but not across the entire country.
