Apple reportedly working on touchless phones and curved screens

After foldable smartphone, touchless smartphones are probably going to be the new trend as Apple is reportedly working on touchless gesture screens for its future iPhones.

A new report from Bloomberg has suggested that Apple is working on its future iPhones to feature ‘touchless gesture control’ along with curved screens.

Sources familiar with Apple’s plans that wished to remain anonymous, suggest that this touchless control feature is explained as a hover-like gesture system that will allow people to navigate iOS by ‘moving their finger close to the screen without actually tapping it’.

Also, Apple is working for its iPhone display to be curved inwardly gradually from top to bottom, unlike Samsung’s curved screens that curve down at the edges. Reports also suggest that the company is secretly working on its MicroLED screens for the future.

When on one hand this upgrade will help the company distinguish itself entirely from others in the market, upgrade like this one is still around two to three years away to become a reality. An Apple spokeswoman declined to comment.

Samsung already contains a feature it calls ‘Air Gestures’ that lets users flip through the phone and accept calls without touching the screen with the help of motion sensors. Google too has been working on a similar technology. Apple’s feature, however, would be based on technology built within the display instead of a motion sensor.
