The participants of 13th Senior Management Course of the National Management College hailing from various occupational groups including police, DMG, Foreign Service, Customs, Income Tax, etc, visited the University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences (UVAS) Lahore and held a meeting with Vice Chancellor Professor Dr Talat Naseer Pasha on Wednesday.
The Vice Chancellor briefed the officers on the academic, research, training and extension programmes of the university. He said that the UVAS is striving hard for building of economies, communities and leadership through its education, training and research programmes, consequently contributing to socio-economic development of the country. Talking about the role of livestock sector, he said that it is contributing 12 percent to the national GDP and 55 percent to the agriculture GDP.
He said that Pakistan has the largest buffalo holding, fourth largest milk producing country, third in goat population and ranked fourth in mutton production. He said that poultry is the most vibrant sector with 8-10 percent annual growth and contributing 9.84 percent to the livestock growth. He said that the UVAS is playing a key role in the development of all these sectors by producing manpower, solving field problems through applied research and developing communities by providing services to farmers round the clock on their doorsteps.
