violence against women in Pakistan is increasing rapidly. This is an alarming situation that 444 women became the victim of violence in four months of the year 2013. Women's rights in Pakistan are worsening with abuses showing an increasing trend. Women are the most vulnerable and marginalized group in society, facing discrimination and violence in their daily life.
Physical, psychological and sexual abuse of women including domestic violence, Karo-kari, suicide, stove and acid burns, rape, and forced marriage remain a serious problem. From January till April of the current year as many as 444 cases of violence against women were reported from different parts of the country.
Madadgaar National Helpline shared the data of violence against women from January to April 2013; this data has been compiled from the clients received in help line through telephonic and face to face ways. According to the statistics, Madadgaar National Helpline's database documented a total of 444 cases of violence against women from January to April 2013 in all across country. In these four months as many as 16 women were murdered, 93 women were kidnapped and 2 got acid burns.
There are 7 cases of torture on woman, 3 women were raped, 1 woman fell prey to Karo-kari (honour Killing), 2 women were burnt, 112 women became the victim of domestic violence, 34 cases of missing women are reported, 53 cases of khulla, 11 cases for child custody and 4 cases for child maintenance were reported. Moreover, 23 cases of harassment, 1 case about sexual abuse and 4 cases of runaway, 1 case for child marriage and 1 case for forced marriage were reported. These unusual number shows that women and girls are victimised in both urban and rural settings.-PR
