Small traders feel the new government will not be able to resolve the country's long-running problems like power and gas shortages in near future. Talking to Business Recorder on Wednesday, Chairman All Karachi Tajir Ittehad (AKTI), Atiq Mir, said that the new government was deep in mire of problems with a 'handful' of resources.
"The former government neither had a will nor it did anything to solve the electricity and gas problems to improve trade and business activities and left the country with more crises," he pointed out. He urged the PML-N government to exploit indigenous resources to end power crisis instead of going to IMF for new programme.
"The government should avoid foreign borrowing and take steps for indigenous solutions to all problems," he urged. "Power crisis will take at least two years to be resolved if the new government has a will to perform," he said. The government should develop Gwadar seaport, Thar coal project and exploit local resources to resolves all issues being faced by the country. To a question, he said the AKTI supported the MQM's mourning day call for today (Thursday) and will keep markets shut across the city.
