A total of 95,000 mostly full-time jobs were created last month in Canada, pushing the unemployment rate down a notch to 7.1 percent, the government statistics agency said Friday. Analysts had expected a mere 18,000 new jobs in May after 12,500 jobs were created in April. Statistics Canada said employment rose in construction, retail and wholesale trade, "other services" such as repair and maintenance of private households, and businesses, building and other support services.
Almost all of the employment gains were in the rebounding private sector, after two months of job losses, it noted.
