National Assembly and the Senate are to commence debate on the new financial budget from Saturday (today). The Lower House will meet at 11:00 am and the Senate at 04:00 pm. Members from the treasury and the opposition benches will hold threadbare discussion on different aspects of the budget and furnish their proposals for inclusion in the final document.
The budget envisages several relief measures including ten percent increase in pension and a housing scheme for low income groups. According to the budgetary proposals‚ the beneficiaries of Income Support Programme will get twelve hundred rupees per month from the next financial year. Those pursuing Masters and doctorate degree will be given laptops under a new scheme.
In view of the crippling energy crisis‚ it has been decided to pay off over five hundred billion rupees circular debt in sixty days. Besides, huge allocations have been made for major power projects. The PML-N government has also taken unprecedented decisions of austerity measures and reduction of non development expenditures by thirty percent. These taxation measures are aimed at steering the country out of financial crisis and other multiple challenges.
