The met office has forecast normal monsoon rains during July-September 2013 period, saying that the season is likely to begin in last week of June with below normal rainfall. The office in its monsoon outlook said that rainfall during the season would gradually increase in August over the central parts of the country. Above normal rainfall is expected in September to hit plains of Punjab and Sindh, it added.
Rainfall activity, the office said, will mainly concentrate in central and southern parts of the country. The office urged 'effective' water management practices should be adopted to fill major reservoirs at optimum level. "Flash flooding over foothills of Suleiman Rangers cannot be ignored during the month of September 2013," the office warned.
It forecast maximum temperature to remain "slightly" high during summer season across the country. "On all Pakistan basis this year's monsoon rains are likely to be normal . . . which means that the overall availability of water in the country from Monsoon rains would be satisfactory. However, erratic spread of Monsoon on temporal and spatial scale is likely to be a prevalent feature," it added.
