Punjab government on Thursday informed to Chief Justice Lahore High Court that a new bill was in the offing with regard to local government set-up in the province. A law officer stated before the court while appear in a petition filed by Local Councils Association Pakistan (LCAP) seeking holding of the local government election that the newly elected government was going to get a bill approved from Assembly envisaged changing in the local government system. He pointed out that other three provinces had already passed the same bill.
The CJ directed the law officer to produce the record of the bill so the court could know whether the government was going to wrap up the local government system under the garb of new bill. The CJ adjourned hearing till July 03.
