Cash basis bids for hard red winter wheat in the southern US Plains were steady on Monday as harvesting activities accelerated in key-producer Kansas. Harvesting has been reported as far north as northwestern Kansas, according to the Kansas Wheat Commission and Kansas Association of Wheat Growers.
In the Bazine area of Kansas, harvest is about 20 percent complete, according to Brandy Feltman at the Coop Grain and Supply there. With test weights averaging about 59 lbs per bushel and protein averaging about 13 percent, farmers report the crop is performing a bit better than expected, although they do not have any yield data yet, the Kansas Wheat Commission said.
In Pawnee and Stafford counties in Kansas, harvest is about 25 percent complete, according to Kim Barnes at the Pawnee County Co-op. Test weight and moisture at the cooperative's four locations averages about 60 lbs per bushel and 12 percent moisture. Oklahoma harvesting was also accelerating as hot and dry weather allowed farmers to resume combining after rainshowers slowed the pace last week. The Kansas City Board of Trade July wheat contract settled most recently at $7.36-1/2. The September contract settled at $7.36. Merchants were starting to roll basis bids to post against the September wheat contract.
