President Asif Ali Zardari's 'mango diplomacy' to win the heart of Pakistan Tehrik-e-Insaf (PTI) chief Imran Khan could not work, as the latter distributed about 40 crates of popular Sindhi mangoes, sent by him among poor and destitute. An official at PTI central secretariat on Wednesday confirmed that about 40 crates of mangoes, sent by President Asif Ali Zardari to Imran as a gift, were distributed among people who could not afford to purchase the special fruit.
The president had earlier sent the mangoes to Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, which he gratefully accepted but Imran refused and immediately ordered to distribute all the fruits among poor people in the slums of federal capital. PTI Central Information Secretary Dr Shireen Mazari could be reached despite several attempts by this correspondent to ascertain the reason behind Imran's refusal to accept the mangoes gifted to him by a democratically elected president.
However, Imran had earlier accepted a 'puppy' gifted to him by former president General Pervez Musharraf without any hesitation, which still lives in his Banigala farmhouse, and Imran is reportedly taking special care of the puppy, which is now a grown up dog.
