Ameer, Jamaat-i-Islami, Munawar Hasan, has said that the masses won't allow a "democratic dictatorship enjoying the support of numerical majority", to function. Addressing a Friday congregation at Mansoora, he said that the newly-elected government had taken the start with an anti people budget which is a bomb shell, due to which the resentment of the people was increasing.
The JI Ameer said that the new rulers had forgotten the rosy promises made during election campaign of bringing down the prices, end of loadshedding, etc, and were instead rubbing salt on the wounds of the people by issuing vague statements.
He said the one percent raise in GST causing almost 20 percent rise in prices, raise in POL and gas prices besides the Fuel Adjustment Charges, were unjust and oppressive burden on the people. The JI Ameer said that the Supreme Court order against GST levy had been thrown to the winds by the rulers who were also ridiculing the judiciary like the previous regime.
He said it was the height of irony that the rulers who lived in palaces and had billions lying in foreign banks, were demanding sacrifices from the people who were already unable to make both ends meet. He said if only the rulers brought their foreign wealth back to the country, there wont be any need to beg from the IMF.
Syed Munawar Hasan termed the US-Taliban dialogue a positive step towards the restoration of peace in the region. He said the US which had been under the intoxication of power a few years back and was only talking in terms of the gun, had now practically surrendered to the Taliban.
He said that Pakistan need not to interfere in the US-Taliban talks because whether the talks were successful or not, the US could not pull out without Islamabad's support.
However, he said the US wanted India to replace it in Afghanistan and play an important role there as it did not trust Pakistan, which had suffered the most during the last 12 years war.
The JI Ameer also deplored that Syria had been the target of the conspiracies of anti-Islam forces who were trying to crush the Muslims' strength by brining them to war on sectarian basis.
It was time that the Muslim world showed sanity and foiled the Western agenda. The on- going conflict in Syria should not be made a Shia-Sunni conflict, he said, and Saudi Arabia and Iran should try to resolve the issue through mutual understanding and dialogue.
