Lyari and its other neighbourhoods remained tense on second consecutive day as four persons including Katchi Rabita Committee (KRC) leader were killed while 13 others injured in continuing violence. Heavy gunshots and grenade blasts echoed in Lyari the whole day that forced the inhabitants to stay in doors.
According to police, unidentified armed men targeted Shoaib, 35, son of Haji Ishaq in the limits of Kalri police station. He was active leader of KRC and an employee of KPT. Police said that he was targeted when he was on the way to somewhere. Following the said incident, protesters belonged to Katchi community took to the street and staged demonstration with Shoaib's corpse at Maripur road. The charged protesters tried to approach CM house to register their protest but were stopped at West Wharf Bridge by the law enforcers. Police used teargas shells, aerial firing and water cannon to stay the protesters away from CM House.
Miscreants present in the protest rally also exchanged heavy gunshots that left one, Iqbal, killed while five others sustained injuries. Meanwhile, Lyari gangsters took advantage of the situation and opened firing on the protesters that turned Maripur road as battlefield. The clash continued for six hours, causing to disturb the city's traffic for hours. Later, Shoaib was buried at Gul Bai graveyard.
Inhabitants of the area claimed that after Shoaib's murder, Rangers personnel entered in the area and killed one, Shakeel. However, Rangers expressed ignorance over the said killing. Anther body of Katchi namely Qasim was recovered from Al-Falah road. A bullet-riddled body was recovered from Old Haji camp. The identity of the victim was yet to be ascertained. Similarly another unknown body was found near Mira Naka but no legal procedure has so far been initiated as three police stations including Chakiwara, Shershah and Pak colony remained unable to decide which police station would initiate the case.
