The Pakistan People's Party (PPP) Multan Chapter observed the black day on Friday to condemn the military dictator General Ziaul Haq for overthrowing their Party's elected government on July 5, 1977. The People's Students' Federation (PSF), People's Unity of PIA, PPP (Women wing), People's Lawyers' Forum also observed black day throughout the South Punjab.
Addressing the protest rally in Multan Khurshid Ahmed Ex-MPA, City President, Khalid Hanif Lodhi District President, Malik Aamer Dogar Ex-MPA, Khawaja Rizwan Alam, M Saleem Raja, Saleem-ur-Rehman Mayo, Saeed Moni said that July 5, 1977, was the "bleakest day" in Pakistan's political history when dictator General Ziaul Haq toppled Zulfikar Ali Bhutto's democratically elected government.
On that day, he said, people's constitutional and political rights were usurped and political workers, particularly PPP activists, were persecuted. They said PPP's founder Zulfikar Ali Bhutto was implicated in false cases and the public was deprived of their beloved leader. Despite all these atrocities, Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto remains alive in hearts of the people, he added.
