A National University of Science and Technology (NUST) team of experts on energy will survey 17 districts of the Punjab province to help Punjab Agriculture Department's 'Crop Biomass Cell' compiling data for generating power from biomass in the province.
This was disclosed by the Director General (Agriculture Extension) Dr Muhammad Anjum Ali while chairing a meeting of the crop biomass cell here on Friday. The meeting was also attended by former Director General (Fields) Dr Rafiq ur Rehman, Director Crop Reporting Services Malik Nasim Ahmad, Director (Agronomy) Ayub Agriculture Research Institute Faisalabad Chaudhry Abdus Sattar and others.
The meeting decided that the Director (Agronomy) will prepare a questionnaire in line with the international practices to ascertain quantity of biomass to be achieved from remnants of different crops for generation of energy. While data would be tabulated through help of crop reporting services and field staff of the agriculture (extension). The meeting also prepared recommendations for progress on research on biomass and possible generation of electricity by using it.
