Though the District Municipal Corporation (DMC) East claimed of carrying out eight rounds of spray in Jamshaid Zone, but the residents complained that they have not witnessed any fumigation vehicle in their respective areas. The fumigation drive is being carried out to eradicate the deadly dengue and malaria mosquitoes in the city ahead of monsoon season.
Sources said that fumigation was being carried out with just 24 vehicles in all five districts of the city due to shortage of funds. Sources said that though DMC East was carrying out fumigation's in its jurisdiction but quantity of the pesticide being used to kill mosquitoes was not up to the mark. On the other hand, the rain emergency plan of Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) is set to undergo a crucial test of the civic department's ability whether it is ready to respond to the monsoon rainy spell, as a number of key machineries are inoperative, sources said.
Sources said that KMC had not yet got repaired the available machinery to be utilised for draining out rainwater due to acute shortage of funds. KMC officials conceded that the concerned departments did not have adequate funds to get repaired the faulty machinery. He asked the authorities to provide funds to concerned departments including engineering, vehicle and others for repairing all machinery.
