Chaudhry Muhammad Sarwar was sworn in as the Governor of Punjab on Monday at a ceremony held at the Governor's House on Monday. He will be the 35th Governor of the Punjab. Justice Umar Ata Bandial, Chief Justice Lahore High Court, administered the oath on the occasion attended by Chief Minister Punjab Shahbaz Sharif, federal and provincial ministers, provincial bureaucracy and foreign guests.
Speaking on the occasion, the new Governor Punjab said Pakistan was facing crucial problems demanding unity of the nation to find solutions. He resolved political dedication to bring progress and assured the minorities of their rights. Choosing the area of education to grow, Sarwar pointed out that 10 million children were deprived of education. "Efforts will be afoot to send them to schools," according to a statement issued by the office of newly Governor.
The statement also listed down major challenges in country including poverty, terrorism, unemployment and the current energy crisis. He assured of exercising his experience and contacts to bring a change through foreign investment in Pakistan. Sarwar hails comes from the Faisalabad district, residing in the UK and got elected as Labour MP for Glasgow Govan in 1997 and served until 2010. He is also likely to renounce his British citizenship to meet Constitutional requirement for holding public office in Pakistan.
