Secretary General, Jamaat-i-Islami(JI), Liaqat Baloch, who also heads the JI Political Committee, has said that the federal and the provincial governments were deliberately creating obstructions in holding local bodies elections, and added that governments' attitude was in violation of the constitution besides being contempt of the court.
Liaqat Baloch said, in a statement issued here on Sunday, that the Election Commission could not hold local bodies elections unless the federal and the provincial governments had made necessary preparations and were fully co-operative. Besides, he said, the governments and the ruling parties must be honest and impartial if the elections were to be fair, free and transparent.
He said that the at present, different parties were in power at the centre and in the provinces while the federation was not interested in having a uniform local government system in all the provinces He said it seems all the parties were trying to gain time till the retirement of Chief Justice of Pakistan, Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhary, and said that such an attitude of the governments was undemocratic.
