Return of peace in Karachi

It is the natural wish of every nation to live in an atmosphere of peace and tranquillity. It is due to this reason, every nation prefers, at first, to achieve this objective to include itself in the quest for advancement in the world community. Fortunately, Karachi was enjoying this atmosphere in the past under the title of "City of Lights".
Everybody was free to travel anywhere at any time in any part of Karachi at that time without any fear. It was due to this meritorious quality of pleasant atmosphere that every type of genuine business activities relating to import, export, industry, trade and commerce were flourishing by leaps and bounds. The main reason behind the progress and prosperity of Karachi was based on the pillar of Muslim unity and spirit of protection of national interests by every citizen.
It is a matter of great misfortune that Karachi lost all these human values after falling in grip of lawlessness for a long time, which unleashed a series of targeted killings, sectarian violence, robberies, extortion, kidnappings and street crimes, etc, across the city. There is a general perception that the weakness of law and order situation provided opportunities to growth of crimes in the city.
According to a report appeared in an issue of 25.10.2012, in a Karachi eveninger, about 9,000 people were killed in Karachi violence during the tenure of previous government. According to a report of Human Rights Commission of Pakistan (HRCP), 1,726 people fell victim to targeted killings and sectarian violence in Karachi during the last six months of the current year. Doctors, lawyers, educationists, intellectuals, ulema, members of provincial assembly, active workers of religious and political parties were included among the outstanding figures of society who lost their precious lives in Karachi violence. It is also a fact that security personnel also came under attack on several occasions. These were the major factors behind the initiation of a targeted operation in Karachi. In this regard, the claim of Ministry of Interior to be based on reality that this operation has brought some improvements in peace scenario.
