The election of the Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) for the year 2013-14 will be held on Thursday (today) in which 2720 eligible voters will elect new body. The majority of 1172 eligible voters are from Lahore. Muhammad Sadiq Hidayatullah and Syed Sardar Hussain have already been elected unopposed as vice presidents from Sindh and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa respectively. Similarly Raja Muqsit Nawaz Khan and Raja Ghazanfar Ali Khan have also been elected unopposed as additional secretary and secretary finance.
As there is turn system therefore next president would be from Balochistan. For the top slot a tough contest is expected between Professional Group's candidate Kamran Amanullah Kanrani and Independent Group's candidate Kamran Murtaza. The three candidates Asif Mehmood Cheema, Azmatullah Chaudhry and Muhammad Aslam Pervez Mian are in the run for the office of secretary.
For the vice president Rana Naeem Sarwar and Shah Abbas Iqbal Mian from Punjab and Abdullah Kakar and Jahanzaib Khan Jadoon are from Balochistan. Ten candidates are in the run for the executive committee from Punjab, four each from Sindh and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and five from Balochistan. According to the rules, out of total 14 executive body members, two from each province will be elected on compulsory basis and six without a bar of provincial quota. The SCBA members would cast their votes in Lahore, Islamabad/Rawalpindi, Multan, Karachi, Bahawalpur, Peshawar, Abbotabad and Quetta. The ten polling stations have been established in different cities including Lahore, Karachi, Peshawar and Quetta.
