The country's import of jute has increased by over 8 percent during July-September period of the current fiscal year. According to Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS), Pakistan imported jute worth $9.788 million during July-September period of the current fiscal year, as compared to the commodity's import of $9.040 million in the same period last year, representing a rise of 8.24 percent or $0.748 million.
Volume of jute import also increased by four percent or 703 metric tons to 18,412 metric tons during the period under review, as compared to the import of 17,709 metric tons of jute in the same period of last fiscal year. On annual basis, jute import fell by two percent or $0.031 million to $1.872 million in September 2013, as compared to the commodity's import of $1.903 million during the same month of last fiscal year.
In terms of volume, jute import on year-on-year basis increased by two percent or 60 metric tons to 3,500 metric tons during September this fiscal year, as compared to the commodity's import of 3,440 metric tons during the same month of last fiscal year, the PBS statistics suggest.
