Ubuntu developer Canonical has released a new version of its Linux-based operating system. Version 13.10 or Saucy Salamander focuses on new features for touch-screen tablets. The most significant new innovation is Smart Scopes which delivers semantic search results from more than 50 online sources directly to a user's desktop. It can check out products from Amazon and eBay, news from Facebook and Google News and videos from YouTube. Performance has also been improved, particularly for Ubuntu's user interface, Unity.
