Al least 13 people including six workers of Ahl-e-Sunnat Wal Jamaat (ASWJ) were killed in different areas of the city on Tuesday, police and rescue sources said. An activist of ASWJ was gunned down in Defence Phase-I in the limits of Defence police station. The victim was identified as Qari Mohammad Jan. He was shot and killed by unknown armed motorcycle riders. Police said the deceased was Muazzin at a mosque.
The body was moved to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Center (JPMC) for medico-legal formalities. In another incident, two ASWJ workers were shot dead by unidentified armed men in Akhtar Colony area in the limits of Mehmoodabad police station. The victims were identified as Mufti Tariq Shah and Qari Yad Mohammad. Police said that unidentified armed men riding motorcycles opened fire on the deceased in Akhtar Colony area. As a result, they received severe bullet injuries and died on the spot.
Sources said that Yad Mohammad was employee of Sindh Welfare Department. The bodies were shifted to JPMC for medico-legal formalities. In yet another incident, another two workers of ASWJ were shot and killed in Mehran Town in the limits of Korangi Industrial Area police station. The victims were identified as Qari Mohammad Ramzan son of Dildar Khan and Ayaz. The bodies were moved to JPMC for autopsy.
A body of a man was recovered from Zia Colony in the limits of Korangi Industrial Area. The body was later identified as Raza Gul. ASWJ Spokesman said that the deceased, Raza Gul, was an ASWJ activist. He was shot and killed by unknown armed men. The body was moved to JPMC for autopsy.
Another body was recovered from Ittehad Town, Baldia. The body was later identified as Ahsan, 26. He was shot and killed after being kidnapped. The body was moved to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for medico-legal formalities. Separately, a man was gunned down while another was injured in Qasba Colony in the limits of Pirabad police station. The deceased was identified as Nadeem alias Sono son of Jameel while the injured was identified as Farhan, 25.
Nadeem was an activist of Muttahida Quail Movement (MQM). The body and injured were shifted to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital (ASH) for medico-legal formalities. An unidentified body of a man was recovered from Ali Mohammad Mohala - Lyari. The body was moved to Civil Hospital Karachi (CHK) for medico-legal formalities. Slaughtered bodies of couple were recovered from water tank of a house in Shah Faisal Mohala, Orangi area in the limits of Orangi Town police station. The victims were identified as Raees and Shahzadi Begum.
Police said that unknown men killed them with some sharp edged tool. The bodies were shifted to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for medico-legal formalities. A woman and her daughter were gunned down by armed men in Janjal Goth area of Sohrab Goth in the limits of Sohrab Goth police station. The victims were identified as Mumtaz Begum, 40, wife of Mohammad Azam and Mariam, 20, daughter of Mohammad Azam. The bodies were shifted to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for medico-legal formalities. Meanwhile, a body was recovered from Lines Area in the limits of Brigade police station. The identity of the victim could not be ascertained till filing of this report. The body was moved to JPMC for autopsy.
