The Lahore High Court on Tuesday directed Water and Sanitation Authority (Wasa) to take samples of drinking water from different parts of the city and get them examined from PCSIR laboratory and submit the report December 19. The court was hearing a petition filed by Imtiaz Rasheed Qureshi of Save Judiciary Committee questioning dilapidated sewerage system and provision of unclean drinking water in the provincial metropolis.
The petitioner prayed to the court to direct the respondents to ensure provision of clean drinking water to the citizens. Earlier, a Wasa official told to the court that complaints of the citizens about unclean drinking water and sewerage system were being addressed promptly. He said old sewerage lines were also being replaced in light of the complaints of the citizens.
The petitioner contended that Wasa charged sewerage charges in its monthly bill from all consumers but neither sewerage system was good in the city nor citizens were being provided clean drinking water. The petitioner stated that due to poor services of the respondent authority the sewerage system in different parts of the city remained chocked.
