Sindh High Court (SHC) has delegated the special magisterial powers to deputy commissioners (DCs) and assistant commissioners (ACs) for the purpose of ensuring peace and effective administration during the Muharram in the province. According to the SHC Registrar, chief secretary had requested the Chief Justice of SHC for granting magisterial powers to assistant and deputy commissioners for taking effective decisions on encroachments, law and order, price control and imposition of Section 144 CrPC.
He said that the deputy and assistant commissioners would have the powers to impose fine and challan on the offenders of Section 144 CrPC, encroachment of land and other minor offences. He, however, made it clear that special magistrates would have no power to try the violators or offenders since this task would be performed by the judicial magistrates.
