Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on Thursday appointed former PPP Senator Anwar Baig as new chairman of Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP). A spokesman said the PM has approved the appointment of Anwar Baig as chairman of BISP. Former senator Baig is a former PPP leader who after developing differences with the party leadership joined PML-N. The post was vacant since the general elections in May 2013.
Sources said after assuming the charge of chairman, Anwar Baig would order investigation in the alleged irregularities and corruption committed during the tenure of former chairperson of BISP and PPP leader Farzana Raja.
