Treasury and opposition parties, except PTI, on Monday asked the chief of Jamaat-i-Islami (JI), Syed Munawwar Hassan, to offer an unconditional apology to the nation for his controversial statement about the army and the public killed in war on terror. A joint resolution which ruling PPP, opposition MQM, PML-N and PML-F supported, while PTI remained silent during the Sindh Assembly session during the debate, said the remarks of chief of JI hurt the feelings of army and general public.
A lady lawmaker of PPP, Sharmila Faruqui, slammed the JI chief for giving such a statements that triggered countrywide protests She demanded the JI should be banned for supporting the militants fighting against the country's army. Deputy Speaker Shehla Raza tried to establish a nexus between JI and CIA through citation of some books. She said JI has committed"treason" by giving such a statement. She said the JI had fought the US war against USSR in 1980s. She alleged that JI supports banned sectarian outfit Sipaha-e-Sahaba. She also alleged JI founding leader Maulana Madodi for "being CIA agent" along with the AK Barohi in Pakistan by citing excerpts from a book- Who is Who? Irfhanullah Khan Marwat of PML-N also asked the JI chief Syed Munawar Hasan to offer unconditional apology for his statements which hurt feelings of the families of at least 40,000 people who embraced Shahadat in the war against terrorists...
"I have lost nine of my family in the continuing violence in the county. Late Bashir Bilour is my family member. We know the pain a family suffers when its member is killed. God forbid if someone of Munawar Hasan's family is killed he will then feel the pain," he said. MQM's lawmakers also criticised the JI chief for his statement, as Abdul Haseeb Khan urged Syed Munawar Hasan to apologise to the nation as it is the good deed of a Muslim to reconcile after having done something wrong. He said if JI chief did not tender apology then the entire nation will hold him accountable.
