Punjab Agriculture Minister Dr Farrukh Javed has vowed to provide relief to the masses by narrowing the gap between wholesale and retail prices of the vegetables and fruits. He warned that the government will not tolerate over-charging or artificial shortage of any commodity in the province. These views were expressed by him while visiting the Badami Bagh vegetable market on Thursday.
He said every secretary of market committee, representative of DCO concerned and EDO (Agriculture) will remain present during the auction of vegetable and fruits at 8:00am in the market. He said Punjab government is constructing state of the art fruit and vegetable markets to ensure provision of fruits and vegetables to the citizen in a hygienic condition.
The minister expressed his anger and displeasure over unhygienic condition in the Mandi and ordered to ensure provision of clean drinking water and improving the cleanliness in the area. He also said that next few days were very sensitive with regard to dengue so special measures should be taken for cleanliness. Dr Farrukh Javed urged the 1250 price control magistrates to ensure provision of daily use commodities to the masses on government specified rates. He also asked for taking stern action against those over charging.
