The United Goods Transporters'' Alliance on Sunday called off its 10-day-long strike after Federal Finance Minister Ishaq Dar assured them that the government would accept all genuine demands. The announcement was made after the office-bearers of Transporters Alliance had a meeting with Senator Ishaq Dar at the Governor''s House Sindh.
Representatives of the Alliance, Federal Minister for Port and Shipping, Kamran Michael, Provincial Information Minister, Sharjeel Inam Memon, Chief Collector Customs, Commissioner Karachi, Home Secretary Sindh, Chairman KPT, DIG Motorway, GM National Highway Authority (NHA) and others were also present on the occasion.
Talking to Business Recorder President United Goods Transporters'' Alliance, Mohammad Khalid Khan said that Federal Finance Minister had assured them that it would address all grievances of transporters. He said that Ishaq Dar had committed to pay the compensation of vehicles, torched in various incidents in Sindh, before December 2013.
Khalid Khan said that transporters were satisfied with their negotiations with finance minister. "We had detailed discussions on all the genuine demands of the Transporters'' Alliance and Senator Ishaq Dar has accepted our all demands", Khalid Khan said, adding that notification in this regard would be issued on Monday.
He said that transporters have decided to bring their vehicles on the roads after successful negotiations with Senator Ishaq Dar. Khalid Khan also lauded the efforts of the Governor of Sindh Dr Ishrat-ul-Ebad Khan, for resolving the problems of the goods transporters.
Earlier talking to media, after the meeting, Ishaq Dar said that government has accepted the demands of the transporters. He said that as a result of the negotiations with the office bearers of the Alliance transporters have decided to immediately call off their strike.
