Punjab Assembly opposition leader Mian Mehmood-ur-Rasheed has demanded resignation of the Punjab government, as in his opinion it has failed to provide security and relief to the people. While addressing a press conference on Monday, the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader said the Rawalpindi tragedy has exposed the tall claims of the Punjab government.
He observed that despite the fact that the local administration knew that the participants of 10 Muharram rally would offer Namaz-e-Zohrain outside a mosque of another sect, no security force was seen at the spot. "Even after the conflict policemen were not present there. Punjab Law Minister Rana Sanaullah himself admitted that the police force reached late at the conflict area," he added.
The opposition leader also lambasted the Punjab government for failing to give relief to the poor masses. He said Punjab was facing unprecedented price hike under the PML-N rule, which has made the life of common man miserable. "During the five months of PML-N rule, the price of edible items has increased manifold, but the government was not willing to action against profiteers and hoarders," he added.
He claimed that the government's writ was not visible in Punjab; in fact writ of criminals and profiteers was intact. He was of the view that to divert the attention of the public from the Rawalpindi tragedy, the government has opened a case against General Pervez Musharraf (Retd).
"The unfortunate prevailing circumstances in the provinces show that Punjab Chief Minister has no interest in the affairs of Punjab. Hence, the PML-N rulers should resign from the government immediately," he added. To a question, he said the PTI demanded a new session of the Punjab Assembly, but the PML-N rulers are avoiding it. "Whenever the new session is called, they will fully protest against failed policies of Punjab government," he added.
Meanwhile, PTI has moved an adjournment motion against Rawalpindi tragedy in the Punjab Assembly. The opposition leader submitted the adjournment motion, which stated that incident in Rawalpindi occurred due to administration's negligence and inability.
