Attorney General for Pakistan (AGP) Munir A Malik on Wednesday told media persons that investigators had solid evidence against former President and army chief Pervez Musharraf in high treason case. According to him, the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) will be authorised to arrest Musharraf after a complaint in the Special Court is filed against him.
The AGP maintained that the trial against former President Musharraf for allegedly committing high treason could be concluded swiftly due to evidence against him. Malik asserted that as per law, the accused in the current matter could be awarded capital punishment or life imprisonment with the power to pardon resting with the President of the country.
Responding to a question, the AGP said the Special Court being constituted for the trial of the accused could also hear the bail application filed by the former President. Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has approved a panel of three judges for the formation of a special court for the trial of Musharraf on treason charges under Article-6 for allegedly subverting the Constitution by imposing emergency on November 3, 2007. The Special Court will be headed by Justice Faisal Arab of Sindh High Court (SHC), while Justice Syeda Tahira Safdar of Balochistan High Court (BHC) and Justice Yawar Ali of Lahore High Court (LHC) will be its members.
