A bookshop was opened at the Alliance Francaise Karachi on Thursday evening. Ambassador of France to Pakistan Philippe Theibaud, and the German Ambassador, Cyrill Nunn jointly performed the inauguration. Consul General of France in Karachi, Christian Ramage, German Consul General, Dr Tilo Klenner, and the Director of Alliance Francaise Karachi, Jean Francois Chenin were also present on the occasion.
The bookshop has been established in collaboration with the Paramount Books Limited. In his remarks, Philippe Thiebaud said that the Alliance Francaise Karachi has emerged as a centre for the promotion of French language as well as the European culture.
He also referred to the Karachi Literature Festival held in the metropolis last February and said that this will help further expand the promotion of literature. The French Envoy also pointed out that the dialogue of culture fosters understanding. Ambassador of Germany Cyrill Nunn lauded the opening of the bookshop and termed this as a good contribution.
He also pointed out that there will be books in English and other European languages as well as in Urdu at the bookshop.
The envoy said that it is good to learn the European languages like French and German as well.
