Governor Punjab Chaudhry Muhammad Sarwar has assured the APTMA leadership of maximum gas supply to the textile industry in Punjab during winter. "Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has also shown concern and I am very much hopeful that gas supply to the textile industry during December will remain intact," he said.
He was speaking as the chief guest at the First Lake City Electronic and Print Media Awards 2013 at the Lake City Golf & Country Club on Tuesday. MNA Pervez Malik, provincial members of Punjab Assembly, industry tycoons and Chief Executive Lake City Gohar Ejaz were also present on the occasion. Governor Punjab said he had been remained active in the UK early November to ensure successful voting on the GSP plus for Pakistan from the EU. He further expressed the hope that Pakistan would get through the GSP plus status in early December that would open new vista of opportunities of Pakistan textile industry in the EU market.
Governor Punjab also stressed the industrialists to support him on his cause for filtered water for school children. He also appreciated the role of media in promoting positive image of Pakistan within and outside Pakistan. Speaking on the occasion, Chief Executive Lake City Gohar Ejaz said he had started recognising the positive role of the industrialists as well as media in strengthening industrial growth in Pakistan.
According to him, the industry was very much worried over the possibility of losing the GSP plus opportunity but timely intervention of the Governor Punjab turned the tables altogether. The textile industry is ready to grab the opportunity from January 2014.
Chairman APTMA Punjab S M Tanveer urged the Governor Punjab to play his role in ensuring uninterrupted gas supply to textile mills in Punjab during December and January.
President Lahore Press Club Arshad Anasri appreciated the role of textile industry in providing jobs to millions of Pakistanis, and said Lake City Electronic and Print Media Awards 2013 would go long in strengthening economic reporting in the city. He also extended life membership of Lahore Press Club to Gohar Ejaz. Governor Punjab distributed shields and mementos among the winners of different categories of the award at the end of the ceremony.
