Agri Forum Pakistan (AFP) Chairman Muhammad Ibrahim Mughal has suggested the government to establish a new company with seed money of $10 billion, which collected from overseas Pakistanis, with the target of construction new dams to produce cheaper electricity.
The new company should focus on construction of Kalabagh Dam, Dasu, Bhasha, Akhori and Bonji dams for power generation and Pakistan should buy electricity from it. It will not only help to generate electricity but also ease the burden of Rs 400-500 billion which people are bearing in shape of expensive electricity.
Talking to media persons on Tuesday, AFP Chairman Dr Ibrahim Mughal said that Pakistani nation is paying Rs 2500 billion in taxes but are begging for power, flour, vegetables, gas, health and education facilities. He advised that the government should reduce its non-developmental expenditures by 30 per cent, arrest electricity pilferage and recover arrears of Rs 440 billion from gas defaulters.
Mughal alleged that there are very few countries in the world where such huge revenue is collected annually. He said that time has come the revenue collected from the masses should be spent in a transparent manner and details of each and every penny spent should be disclosed to the people. He said it would not only generate new taxpayers but tax collectors would work with full dedication, country would be improved financially. If revenue is collected on merit and with honesty and then the collected amount should be spent on welfare and development instead of luxuries of bureaucrats and rulers then new taxpayers could come forward.
He viewed that five million new taxpayers are ready to pay taxes, which could generate up to Rs 4000 billion annually. He also termed the tax collection machinery and FBR as another hindrance in enhancing the revenue collection in the country. Agri Forum Pakistan Chairman said that the rulers should make Pakistan an Islamic welfare state to get rid of all the loans and redress the situation of food, employment, electricity and gas in a year.
