"WE CAN", a national non Govt. organisation in collaboration with OXFAM and South Asia Partnership (SAP-PK) is organising the second Annual Children Assembly on Thursday (tomorrow) where 200 children from various parts of Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa are gathering to claim for their right to education through putting together recommendations for implementation of Article 25 A, to end the worst education emergency in Pakistan.
The event will be attended by various representatives of mainstream political parties, academia, and renowned celebrities including Khalid Anam, Adeel Hashmi and wider civil society coming together from KP, Punjab and Sindh.
Renowned singer and social activist, Mr Arieb Azhar has taken up OXFAM and WE CAN's national level education campaign, 'It's My Right - Make it Right!' as brand ambassador and has dedicated his motivational song 'Jholay, Jholain Rang Hamray' to these young campaigners multiplying all across the country. Speaking at the occasion Arieb said, ensuring access and quality of education for all with particular focus on girls who are to become the women of tomorrow.
Representing WE CAN, the National Co-ordinator, Ms Hajera Pasha, Saeed ul Hassan, Head of Education Programme from OXFAM and Irfan Mufti, Deputy Director SAP-PK shared their views about the children assembly. Hajera highlighted the grim situation of girls' education in Pakistan and the crucially to take rigorous but joined up actions to address it. Saeed ul Hassan briefly elaborated the broader vision of this initiative which revolves around connecting the informed rights holders with duty bearers. According to him, such events ultimately help the leaders of tomorrow to question the leaders of today. Irfan Mufti emphasised on creating and promoting such spaces and forums for the children and youth to have their "say" in all the relevant process of policy formulation and its implementation at all levels.
