Chairman APTMA Punjab S M Tanveer has welcomed restoration of gas supply to the Punjab-based textile mills from 21st February, saying that it will boost industry confidence on government policies.
Addressing a hurriedly-called press conference on Wednesday afternoon at the APTMA Punjab office, he said APTMA leadership represented the case of textile industry to the Chief Minister Punjab, Federal Finance Minister Ishaq Dar and Federal Minister for Petroleum and Natural Resources Sharif Khaqan Abbasi, who have decided to restore gas supply to the Punjab-based textile industry from 21st February.
He said restoration of six hours a day gas supply will bring the impaired capacity back to operations. He paid special thanks to the Prime Minister, Chief Minister Punjab, Finance Minister and Federal Minister Petroleum and Natural Resources for enabling the Punjab-based textile industry to operate smoothly ahead. Already, he said, the textile exports have increased by $220 million in December 2013.
He has appreciated the role of Pervez Malik, MNA for his co-ordination and efforts for the restoration of gas supply to the Punjab-based textile industry. Gas supply to the Punjab-based textile mills was suspended on 16th of February till further notice, leading to one shift closure of Punjab-based mills. Tanveer said the APTMA management represented the case, and appealed to the government. While considering the appeal of the APTMA, he said, the government decided to restore gas supply to Punjab-based textile mills from February 21 to the tune of 25 percent of the allocated quota, ie six hours a day.
