Vietnam's February coffee exports jump 59 percent

Vietnam, the world's top robusta producer, would export an estimated 160,000 tonnes (2.67 million bags) of coffee in February, a rise of 59.4 percent from a year ago, the government said on Wednesday, above market expectations. January coffee exports were revised up at 143,000 tonnes, from 135,000 tonnes in an earlier estimate, the General Statistics Office said in its monthly report.
The estimated volume this month brought the country's shipment in the October 2013-February 2014 period to 580,100 tonnes, down 18.5 percent from a year ago, according to statistics office's data. Traders have forecast coffee exports this month, the fifth month of the 2013/2014 crop year, at between 100,000-120,000 tonnes. The crop year lasts from October to September.
