The exhibition of various projects of final year students of Information Technology (IT) has got underway in the institute of information & communication technology, University of Sindh which will continue till March 10, 2014.
The projects have covered "multi-alarm & notification system for android base devices, transport monitoring system using GPS, directorate of malaria control program Sindh, E-Shopping cart, railways ticketing reservation online application in android, secure gate entrance, e-commerce based textile company, blind speaking management information system". The 100 different projects were displayed while a group of four students worked on every project under the supervision of their teacher supervisors.
Vice Chancellor Professor Dr Nazir A. Mughal inaugurated the exhibition with the announcement to start a new course in every discipline of the university named "human values education" in a bid to teach the students moral grounds, human values. He said that there was grave need of youths having degrees in information technology, telecommunication, BBA/MBA & computer science in job market but the condition for getting lucrative jobs was competition in the market. "Only those students can fulfil the dreams of their parents by getting jobs who work hard during their study in the university". Dr. Mughal said.
He advised the students to do M. Phil & PhD after completing their masters because the competition in job market is rapidly augmented. "Generally, the parents sent their children to the universities with the hope that they will be able to get employment once they have qualified their bachelor or master degrees but unfortunately their hopes are diminishing owing to tough competition." He lamented. He said that only those students would seek jobs in the days to come that possess PhD degrees. "It's really the culmination of the students' learning over the last 4 years. It is a celebration of what they have learned, how can they put in their learning into a project that they have chosen; therefore, it is a combination of the research they need to conduct to achieve a goal they have set". VC maintained.
Dr. Mughal further said: in this age of instant information that is accessible from virtually anywhere, emphasis is given on the quality of research and resources. He further explains that SU focuses on teaching the students the skill of evaluating sources and information. "We try to encourage the students to not just go to Goggle and put in a search term and go to the first website that comes up. Instead we work with them in really critically looking at a particular piece of information and then taking that research and looking at how to apply that first to their projects and second how to express that process in their report". He said.
