The Corps Commanders reviewed the prevalent internal and external security situation in its 170th meeting headed by Chief of Army Staff (CoAS) General Raheel Sharif on Friday. Defence sources considered the meeting very important as it discussed government's approach to talks with Tehreek-i-Taliban. According to ISPR, the Corps Commanders' Conference was chaired by General Raheel Sharif and was part of routine monthly meetings.
"The forum dwelt at length on various professional matters. The participants also undertook a comprehensive review of prevalent internal and external security situation of the country," the statement added. Defence Minister Khawaja Asif reportedly said the government was seeking the military's advice on the future course of action in the dialogue process, adding, the upcoming dialogue would be based on intelligence provided by the Military Intelligence (MI).
Defence sources maintained that the conference decided that air strikes on militant hideouts would resume in case of future attacks on any military installations. The meeting was further informed about the objectives achieved through surgical strikes against militant hideouts in North Waziristan in retaliation against terrorist attacks in the country.
